How do you prepare a canvas for acrylic paint without gesso?

Any acrylic paint can be used to prep a canvas if you don’t have a gesso. Gesso has a chalk-like flat finish and if you prep without it.
I will suggest that you would mix a neutral middle value of acrylic paint and apply it to the canvas.
Lightly sand and apply another coat of paint and repeat.

Gesso is pretty inexpensive and is used to change the surface quality, the canvas surface becomes smooth. So instead of using acrylic, I prefer sticking with gesso.

you can go with plastic emulation paint water base which we use for walls

I spray the canvas with warm water for a few seconds then let it dry
