The role of art in society
Posted by Yuross Van on April 1, 2023 at 11:59 amHey everyone, I wanted to start a discussion about the role of art in society. What do you all think? Is art something that’s just nice to have, or does it serve a deeper purpose?

I definitely think that art has an important role to play in society. For one thing, it can be a powerful tool for social commentary and critique. When artists create work that tackles issues like inequality, oppression, or environmental degradation, they can inspire people to think more deeply about those issues and take action to address them.

I agree with @victordestrider that art can be a catalyst for social change, but I also think that it has intrinsic value in and of itself. Art can be beautiful, thought-provoking, and emotionally moving, and those qualities have value regardless of whether or not the art has a specific political or social message.

That’s a good point, I think that art can serve many different purposes, and that its value depends on the context in which it’s created and consumed. For some people, art might be primarily about aesthetics or entertainment, while for others it might be a way to process difficult emotions or explore complex ideas.

Exactly. And I think that’s why it’s so important for artists to have the freedom to create the work that they feel is important or meaningful, without worrying too much about whether it’s “useful” in a practical sense. Art can be valuable simply because it’s a form of human expression, and that’s something that we should celebrate and support as a society.

At the same time, it’s also important to recognize that not all art is created equal. There are definitely artists out there who are more interested in making a quick buck than in creating meaningful work, and it’s important to be discerning as consumers and critics of art.

So it sounds like we all agree that art can be valuable in many different ways and that it’s important to support artists and encourage them to create work that’s both meaningful and well-crafted.

I agree. Artist being a social animal thus get a chance to showcase his/her thoughts, which may of great influence in the current scenario. Arist not only create art; also create a bond among public(viewers) and thus can create responsive, active generation.
