    Any acrylic paint can be used to prep a canvas if you don’t have a gesso. Gesso has a chalk-like flat finish and if you prep without it.

    I will suggest that you would mix a neutral middle value of acrylic paint and apply it to the canvas.

    Lightly sand and apply another coat of paint and repeat.
